SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS ARE NOW BEING CONSIDERED

Every year over the last five years the Tradeshow and Dinner has helped bring in enough funds to assist in increasing the number and amount of scholarships given away. Scholarships are given away to graduating seniors going to a university or trade school to help assist with the increasing costs of education.

Children and grandchildren of ICA state and local CVICA members are eligible to apply for scholarships. If you are not a member yet, but have a child or grandchild interested in the program please visit www.icatexas.com to become a member before February 15th. You can get contact information and read more about the scholarship program on our site at www.coloradovalleyica.org. Those who become members after the 15th will not be eligible to apply for scholarships until 2015. Nicholas Matocha receives the 1st place

Nicholas Matocha of La Grange takes first place ribbon in the Beef Quiz Contest at the recent ICA convention. The quiz involved the kids taking a test over their knowledge of the beef industry. Twelve year old Nicholas is the son of Vincent and Mary Matocha and attends La Grange Middle School.
The contest was divided into two divisions senior and junior. Senior age group was 13-17 while junior was 7-12. This was the first year to implement youth contests at the convention. Nicolas’ brother Philip, age ten, placed second in the Junior division and big brother Greg, age fourteen placed third in the senior division.

All four of the Matocha children, including little sister Rachel who is just eight years old, all show commercial heifers at the County Fair , as well as show registered Red Brangus and Black Brangus at other events. The boys have each had their turn winning the “Herdsman Quiz” at the county fair as well.
Rachel is very excited to be starting third grade this year at Sacred Heart where she attends with older brother Philip. She also begins the 4h program this year like her brothers before her. It looks like all four Matocha children have a future in Agriculture and Cattle Raising. CVICA looks forward to seeing these children as future members.
